Celebrate Arbor Day with a free Buttonbush native shrub or River Birch tree!

April 26 @ 12:00 am - 11:59 pm MDT

Celebrate Arbor Day with a free Buttonbush shrub or River Birch tree! Supplies are limited; one per family, please. The giveaway will take place in the Library parking lot (weather permitting).
Buttonbush is an easy-to-grow, multi-stemmed shrub which grows 6-12 feet or occasionally taller. Its distinctive blossoms are white or pale pink, one-inch globes with spiky pistils fanning out from each side. Buttonbush flower heads are highly attractive to pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, as well as other bird species that eat the plant’s seeds—so when you plant a Buttonbush, you are providing a habitat for the wildlife that help our ecosystem to thrive. Buttonbush requires wet soil conditions, but is otherwise very low-maintenance. Enjoy this unique, beautiful plant and the wildlife it will bring to your garden!

River Birch is a smaller tree that grows 40-70 feet. Its cinnamon-colored, exfoliating bark of the River Birch is spectacular in the winter. The small but plentiful seeds are appreciated by a wide range of songbirds. Lustrous, medium-green leaves in summer. Tolerant of both wet soils and dry summers.

A few Gray Dogwood shrubs will also be available. The gray dogwood grows to a height of 10–15′ and a spread of 10–15′ at maturity. The berries appear before most other dogwoods, making it popular with the squirrels and over 100 bird species that eat the fruit. It forms a dense thicket, providing cover and nesting sites for wildlife.
